Is Bad The New Good?

If you are having a bad day, think again. It may be a good one. And if you are having a good day then think again, it may not be as good as you think it is.....

If you are having a bad day, think again. It may be a good one. And if you are having a good day then think again, it may not be as good as you think it is. Take a look at two unconnected but interesting events. Both serve as allegorical for our everyday lives. Barclays are widely reported to have wanted to buy Lehman Brothers before the venerable firm went bust. Barclays must have spent a lot of money and much reputation must have been riding on a successful acquisition. When it failed there must have been some red faces. A bad day. The FSA quashed the deal worrying rightly about the risk it would import into the UK economy. Not only did this save Barclays as the bank may have gone bust had Lehman been bought, it made billions for the bank as it was able to pick up the lucrative bits of Lehman for nothing. Now forward wind a year and watch England lose again to Australia in the fifth one-day match. Stuart Broad bowls his sixth ball of the over. The umpire calls wide and Broad is incredulous. Face in hands, his gestures imply a Mcenroe-esque you cant be serious exclamation. But a wide means a further ball. It is bowled. And he captures the prize wicket of the day, Ricky Ponting. It just shows you that you never know when something bad really is bad or a pathway to something good. Keep positive!
